Eliot Battle, MD, Receives Innovations in Skin of Color Dermatology Award

(New York, May 7, 2018) – The Journal of Drugs in Dermatology (JDD) presented dermatologist Eliot Battle, MD, with the Innovations in Skin of Color Dermatology Award at the Skin of Color Seminar Series held May 5 and 6, 2018, in New York. The award recognizes individuals who have fostered innovation and improvement in dermatology through increased emphasis on skin of color education and research. Dr. Battle is a co-founder and co-chair of SOCSS.

“Dr. Battle’s tireless support and advocacy has been instrumental in starting the industry wide shift towards dermatology education that is inclusive of all skin types,” said Shelley Tanner, CEO and president of SanovaWorks, parent company of the JDD and SOCSS. ”Dr. Battle received the award for his commitment to safe, accessible, and cutting-edge dermatology care for patients of all ethnicities and for being a champion for this cause.”

Dr. Battle is CEO and founder of Cultura Cosmetic Dermatology and Laser Center in Washington, D.C., an innovative medical practice encompassing dermatology, laser surgery, plastic surgery, and spa therapy. Dr. Battle is the recipient of many national academic honors and awards. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and recognized as a National Institute of Health research scholar. His business received the Emerging Business of the Year Award by the Washington Chamber of Commerce and, in 2008, Dr. Battle received the Minority Business Leader Award by the Washington Business Journal. In addition, he was selected as one of the 2008 Top Dermatologists and Top Doctors by Black Enterprise magazine.

Dr. Battle’s research at Harvard Medical School helped invent the new generation of non-invasive “color blind” cosmetic lasers. Dr. Battle is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Laser Medicine & Surgery and several international societies. In addition, Dr. Battle is past chairman of the dermatology section of the National Medical Association and past president of the Howard University Medical Alumni Association. He is on the medical staff at Howard University Hospital in the department of dermatology. 

The Innovations in Skin of Color Dermatology Award, given by the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, is nominated and chosen through the recommendation of a panel of senior national thought-leaders in dermatology, a committee of dermatology practitioners and several industry leaders.
